Magnetic Resonance Imaging Quality Assurance and Accreditation
Magnetic resonance imaging units are complex
systems that can only provide quality images if all subsystems are functioning to
specifications. For this reason, most MRI facilities contract service engineers to
perform periodic preventive maintenance on the imaging systems. An additional level
of confidence can be maintained by utilizing a physicist to perform periodic QC testing to
oversee the testing performed by the service engineer and the technologist. NPC can
provide these services.
- NPC can assist your facility in becoming
accredited by the American College of Radiology. Your consultant will perform ACR
phantom testing using a phantom owned by NPC, assist with the application process, and
help set up a routine QC testing program.
- The ACR requires accredited facilities to perform
a required series of tests annually. NPC consultants visit facilities
to perform the testing, make recommendations for image quality improvement,
and review the technologist QC program.
- NPC consultants comply with the ACR's
qualification requirements.
- NPC also performs non-ACR testing for facilities
to comply with state regulations where applicable.
